Fans of Batman: The Animated Series rejoice! DC Comics released today a brand new Batman series bases on the Emmy Award-winning show that ran from 1992 to 1995.
Dipping into the nostalgic of the show that redefined the way the Dark Knight was interpreted, DC brought back Paul Dini and Alan Burnett, the creators behind Batman: The Animated Series, for this six-issue miniseries.
While these are fresh stories, the Dark Deco world in which Dini and Burnett were so familiar to in the 90s is on full display.
As I read the comic, I was immediately brought back to my childhood as I reminisced my first taste of the Batman world at the tender age of five years old.
In issue #1, Batman finds himself up against a giant robot that is terrorizing Gotham City. The robot breaks into Wayne Tech and steals a special piece of equipment that was loaned to Bruce Wayne by his friend, Superman.
Who’s controlling the robot? How will Batman stop the mechanized menace? And what does it all have to do with Lex Luthor’s sudden appearance in Gotham?
The first issue is filled with fan-favorited from the beloved Animated Series, and some new friends that make for a very interesting first issue.
With the nostalgic factor, I give the first run of Batman: The Adventures Continue #1 a solid 4.3 out of 5.
Batman: The Adventures Continue #1 was always intended to be “digital-first,” and can be found on ReadDC and ComiXology for the low price of 99 cents. The digital-first series comes out twice a month in a mobile-friendly landscape format and are later collected in physical editions.
