Classic Superman Villain Returns in “Hardware: Part 2”

WARNING: The following contains mild spoilers for Batman: The Adventures Continue #2, on sale now.

Last time we saw the Caped Crusader in Batman: The Adventures Continue, he was hot on the trail of a giant robot that was causing havoc in Gotham City.

The Dark Knight hunted down the robot only to realize the android had stolen a valuable piece of alien technology from Wayne Enterprises.

While the contents of the box was not revealed in issue #1, the issue ends with readers finding out Lex Luthor was indeed the one who actually stole the box, not a giant robot (which would make sense).

In “Hardware, Chapter 2”, the story picks up right where the last issue left off.

Batman is caught in the grasp of Lex Luthor in his iconic mech suit, as the box which Luthor stole from Wayne Tech opens and revels a classic Superman villain, Brainiac.

Brainiac is nowhere near the evil supervillain that brings Superman to his knees, in fact, it’s simply an empty shell of a drone he once used and later discarded after a fight with the Man of Steel.

We find out that Batman himself had inspected the droid and was unable to find any data that could be used for evil, however, Luthor believes there is still useful data in the robot that he could grab and create something far worse.

Issue #2 also shows Batman in his armor suit, which personally was one of the most exciting parts of the issue. Seeing Batman from the Animated Series don the iconic Dark Knight Returns armor suit was definitely a welcomed surprise.

After Luthor escapes round 1, Batman once again finds Luthor, this time on a plane back to Metropolis. Batman in his armor suit, stops the plane and was able to defeat Luthor and protect the empty shell of Brainiac.

But the empty robot was carrying something else inside it! What was it and how does all this connect to Lex Luthor?

Batman: The Adventures Continue is the perfect mixture of nostalgia and a fresh, original story by Alan Burnett and Paul Dini which we desperately needed, especially in a time like the one we are living right now.

Part 3 of the digital-first series comes out on April 29 in its mobile-friendly landscape format. Batman: The Adventures Continue can be found on ReadDC and ComiXology for the low price of 99 cents.
