While I’m aware most (if not all) Batman storylines are fantastic in of themselves, the storylines selected are the ones that I love the most and go back to it every few years. Like a good book, re-reading a comic book always has you learning something you didn’t see before, no matter if it’s the second or the 100th time you are reading it.
Below are a few of my favorite Batman story arcs available right now on DC Universe.
Probably one of the most talked-about stories by any comic book fan. Although not my ultimate favorite, I see the importance of this storyline.
This is a notable Batman storyline and a must for all fans simply because of the fact it brings Jason Todd back to life and reimagining him as a brutally violent antihero known as the Red Hood.
If this wasn’t the most fitting story in this list, I don’t know what is.
Batman fights a killer virus that’s spreading throughout Gotham City with no sign of stopping. This arc brings in fan-favorites such as Nightwing, Azrael, and Catwoman as they all fight against time to try and save the city.

Months after Batman parts ways with Dick Grayson, he meets a young street boy named Jason Todd.
In this classic story from BATMAN #402, 403, 408-416 and ANNUAL #11, Batman goes into action on his own and meets a young hoodlum named Jason Todd, who he’s determined to guide away from a life of crime.
One of the newest story arcs, Court of Owls is one of my all-time favorites. Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s creation was one of the most welcomed new villains in the Batman lore.
In this storyline, Batman discovers a secret society controlling Gotham City for centuries. Can the Dark Knight put an end to the court?
4. Batman: Hush
When a mysterious killer called Hush begins sabotaging Batman from afar, The Dark Knight faces one of his most difficult cases as he looks to crack the case of who Hush is.
This story includes many guest appearances by Batman’s rogue gallery, as well as various members of the Batman Family and Superman.
3. Batman: A Death in the Family
In this classic Batman story, Jason Todd longs to be reunited with his birth mother after learning she may not be dead as previously thought.
During his quest to find his mother, the Joker kidnaps and tortures him, and we all know the rest. Doesn’t matter how many times you’ve heard this story, reading it again gives you just as much emotion as when you first read it.
Since Matt Reeves’ The Batman has halted production, why not take the time to read through what has been rumored to be the storyline?
Taking place during Batman’s early days of crime-fighting, The Long Halloween tells the story of a mysterious killer named Holiday, who murders people on holidays, one each month.
These 1988 stories set the stage for the bestselling Batman: A Death in the Family.
1. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns
This is must-read for all Batman fans! Sure, it’s an elseworlds story, but this is the renaissance of Batman as the dark, mysterious character Bob Kane and Bill Finger intended him to be.
This is single-handily the greatest Batman storyline ever made, don’t @ me.
In this iconic Frank Miller story, a 55-year-old Bruce Wayne battles himself as he returns as the Caped Crusader. This story was the foundation of the Batman we know of today, and this story has been adapted and made a hurt part of blockbuster movies such as The Dark Knight Rises, and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
