The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand, and with it, a surprising new addition has joined the cast of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2—Matthew Lillard! Best known for his roles in Scream and Five Nights at Freddy’s, Lillard’s involvement in the Disney+ series has sparked plenty of speculation. But who exactly is he playing?

The Mystery Role
While Marvel remains tight-lipped on Lillard’s character, fans are already theorizing. Given his history of playing both comedic and sinister roles, he could easily slot into Daredevil’s gritty world as a menacing villain or a quirky ally.
What We Know About Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
Even before Season 1 premieres on March 4, 2025, Marvel Studios is wasting no time gearing up for the second season. Filming is expected to begin in New York next week, meaning Marvel is doubling down on bringing Matt Murdock’s story back to the forefront of the MCU.
Charlie Cox reprises his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, alongside Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. Fan-favorites Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page) and Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson) are also returning, alongside Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle/Punisher and Wilson Bethel’s Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye. With Tony Dalton’s Jack Duquesne (a.k.a. the Swordsman) from Hawkeye also in the mix, the season promises a packed roster of heroes and villains.
The Bigger Picture
Showrunner Dario Scardapane has hinted that Season 2 will serve as a natural continuation of Season 1, allowing for deeper exploration of Daredevil’s world. With the first season tackling the aftermath of Echo and Wilson Fisk’s political ambitions, the sophomore season might introduce even bigger threats.
As for Lillard’s role, fans will have to wait and see whether he’s bringing chaos to Hell’s Kitchen or lending Daredevil a hand. Either way, his addition only fuels the excitement for what’s shaping up to be one of the most anticipated MCU series on Disney+.
